I remember around 2003 when I used Wikipedia for a project in middle school. One other student had used it too and I was like "oh! so cool! You know about Wikipedia too!" as Wikipedia was not very well known outside geeks back then.

When I look back at my first contributions in 2003, I find it crazy that was able to add stuff like most of the French page on alternative current (that I translated from English), which would obviously be already present today. Back then you could add student-made content and it actually improved the quality of the encyclopedia, which shows how incomparably better is has become today!

Back then I was an open source activist and when I look at the products I promoted (Linux, Firefox, Thunderbird, Openoffice, Wikipedia), Wikipedia is really the one that has been the most successful among the general public (Firefox has been too for some time but has lost ground since).
